4 bovine smuggle bids foiled, 36 animals rescued


The Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested three persons and rescued 36 bovines from different vehicles as it foiled four bids of bovine smuggling here in the Jammu and Samba districts of the state.

According to police, a police team signalled a truck to stop on highway at Tapyal area of Samba district, but the driver on seeing the police personnel tried to escape. And though the vehicle was chased down at Ghagwal, the driver managed to flee from the spot.

“Thirteen bovines were found laden inside the vehicle which was being transported illegally without any permission,” an official said, adding that the vehicle was seized and efforts are on to nab the driver.

In an another incident, a police team claimed to have intercepted an abandoned truck on highway at Nonath and rescued 11 bovines from the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was seized and a case has been registered.

“The hunt is on to nab the accused driver,” the official added.

While in Jammu district, the police foiled a smuggling bid as it intercepted a truck at Jajjarkotli area and recovered 12 bovines.

“The accused driver Jaffar Hussain was arrested and a case has been registered,” the official said, adding that the vehicle has been seized.
