The hills and valleys of Himachal saw no respite from biting cold wave conditions today as minimum temperatures stayed below normal at most places and hovered around the freezing point.
Keylong, in Lahaul, and Spiti recorded a low of minus 7 degrees Celsius, while Kalpa, Manali, Bhuntar, Sundernagar and Solan reeled under piercing cold wave with minimum temperatures at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees Celsius and 1.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Una and Palampur recorded minimum temperatures of 3.7 degrees Celsius and 4 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan at 5.5 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 5.7 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala at 6.2 degrees Celsius.
The day temperatures rose marginally as the region had a clear and sunny day and was highest in Una at 24.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Sundernagar at 23.4 degrees Celsius, Solan at 22.3 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar at 22.0 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala at 17.6 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 17.4 degrees Celsius, Nahan at 15.8 degrees Celsius, Manali at 13.8 degrees Celsius, Kalpa at 13.0 degrees Celsius and Keylong at 5.3 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office predicted clear skies and continuation of a dry spell in the region over the next six days, adding to the anxiety of farmers and apple growers, who are eagerly awaiting rains and snow.
